Mermaid Tattoo Designs

Have you decided to get a tattoo and are looking for a new design, one which you feel will appeal to you and suit your style, your personality? Have you ever been attracted to the sea-faring mythical figure of the Mermaid?

Ever heard of the Sirens? The Sirens were a group of beautiful, alluring women who sat upon the dangerous rocks of the stormy sees. There, they sang out, their voices calling sailors to them. The sailors would attempt to get to the Sirens, and in doing so, would crash their boats against the rocks, having been lured only to their death.

The mermaids that we know, feminine creates with the top half of a woman, and the bottom half of a fish, were Siren-like creatures. In Greek mythology the creation of the mermaids is said to have been a result of the union between the Gods and the sea creatures. That may sound odd, but the Goddess Aphrodite is also said to have been born of the sea, and so, for a sea faring national such as the Greeks, women of the see were seen as symbols of ultimate beauty and erotic love.

Due to its connection to the sea, mermaid tattoo designs are often seen to have been adopted by sailors, rather than being a feminine tattoo. The mermaid tattoo designs often depict a mermaid who sits upon the top of a rocks in the middle of a stormy sea. They will usually have long flowing hair, and wear a bra of sea shells. The sailors have this as a tattoo to link them back to the ocean, even when they are on the land.

In modern culture many of us will remember the depiction of the “Little Mermaid’ from the Disney movies, and so when most women chose to have a mermaid tattoo design, it is usually of the cartoon mermaid, rather than the ancient, mythical figures of the sea.

Butterfly Fairy Tattoo Designs

Those dingy tattoo parlours that you so often pass by on a drunken night, when the neon signs or flashing, but no one is actually home, often seem to have such appeal. Do they have that same appeal in the day time, you wonder. And so you chance it, and pass it, and it does. In fact, the neon lights have more when you can see the inside, when you know you can go in.

Maybe it is the colorful walls. Or perhaps it is the rails of sketches that are enticing you to look through but simply being that makes you feel part of it. So you flick through, the guy at the counter who looks like a human advertisement for tattoos ignoring you coolly as you look.

Just when you’re about to give up, allowing a wry smile at your own foolish notion that maybe you would actually get a tattoo for yourself, you come across one which makes you wonder if it was not so foolish an idea after all. You know that a butterfly or a fairy is so cliché, but you want to get one anyway, because they’re beautiful.

To all, butterflies are a vibrant symbol of transformation. They are the complete and utter depiction of a fragile world where change is extremely common, in fact, when change is just the cycle of life. And this symbolism has not been lost on you either. Drawn to it, you know you want something like that.

Not completely sure you glance through again. Flip. Flip. And there, another butterfly, but this time, it is settled upon the outstretched hand of a fairy. You wonder how she can do that, butterflies die when they come into contact with a human hand. But a fairy is not human, and again, with your lips turning at the edges, you see how magical she is.

Would it not be great to have magic in your life again? Just as you did when you were a child, before you changed, before you grew up. Would it be great to see beauty, and nature, and life completely freely once more. Heading over to the guy at the desk, you ask if there is any way to put the two together, that butterfly that made you think, that fairy that made you smile.

Tribal Sun Tattoo Designs

As someone who has tattoos myself, I can fully understand how difficult it can be to choose an appropriate design that you want on your body for the rest of your life. It is difficult to really see something that is of true interest to you, or that best suits exactly why you want your new tattoo. I have sat for hours attempting to decide. Finally though you manage it. Some of the most interesting designs for this are the sun and tribal tattoo designs.

It is sometimes incredibly difficult however to chose between the two. First you can not find any, and then you find two that you like so much you wish you could combine them together. With a pen and paper besides me I have often sketched out the many different tattoos attempting to see how best they fit together, and I am incredibly lucky to have a friend who is an artist to help me out.

If you are not as lucky as I am though, the best thing about tattoo parlours is that quite often they offer the service of creating and drawing tattoos specifically for you. This allows you to have your own original tattoo. But it will come at a small price. Now, finally, you have picked out your tattoo, a combination of a tribal and sun tattoo design.

The sun tattoo design is usually a rather plain design. Most of the time those who do choose to have this will want to customize it in some way, whether this is with a personalized sun design, with a picture within the sun, or with another tattoo, the sun is an easily customizable design which means you can have an original tattoo upon your body.

An excellent one to combine along with the sun tattoo design is a tribal tattoo design. Tribal tattoo designs are often seen as intricately woven, thick black lines, which can be adapted and changed to surround the sun designs, and together the tribal sun tattoo design can be a beautifully created design for you.
